If your skin has been dry, flaky, and red recently, you can blame the contrast of cold, dry air outside, and warm, dry air inside.

To keep your skin soft and supple, Dr. Chasan asked me to share his top winter skin-protecting tips with you.

Happy Skin Tip #1. Eat your Omega-3s

While Omega-3s are an important nutrient to consume year-round, they’re essential for your skin’s health during the winter.

And that’s because omega-3s are an excellent line of defense against dry, cracked skin—which is a common condition in the winter.

Omega-3s soften your skin by strengthening your cell membranes. This strengthening helps your skin retain more water, which results in soft, wrinkle-free, youthful-looking skin.

You can find omega-3s in tasty foods such as:

  • Almonds, avocado, walnuts, chia, flaxseed
  • Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and herring

Of course, another great option is to take omega-3 supplements.

In fact, for omega-3s, supplementation can be superior to food sources because a good supplement won’t contain the heavy metals or toxins you can find in fish, and you’ll enjoy a higher absorption rate than nuts or seeds.

Happy Skin Tip #2. Don’t forget sunscreen

Rubbing on a protective sunscreen layer during the scorching summer months is common sense. But did you know that up to 90% of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate winter clouds as well1?

Not only can the sun still burn you (although burns are less likely during the winter), the subtler forms of UV damage are still a threat.

You see, when UV rays touch your fragile skin, they damage collagen and elastin in your skin, resulting in faster formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

For this reason, wearing sunscreen year-round is one of the best, most basic, and important steps you can take to protect your skin.

(BONUS: Look for an antioxidant-containing sunscreen, as they’ll further protect your skin from free radical damage and photoaging.)

Happy Skin Tip #3. Nourish your skin from within

Many of your skin’s visible signs of aging result from long-term exposure to environmental factors, for example:

Pollutants in the air you breathe can form free radicals that damage your collagen networks, which maintain your skin’s firmness and elasticity.

And if your skincare regime is based on products filled with inactive ingredients and fillers such as parabens, PEGs, fragrances, and dyes…

These products are piling even more stress onto your skin and health. For this reason, we believe that the path to healthy skin begins with nourishing yourself from within.

Take collagen and hyaluronic acid for example: When these nutrients are supplemented compared to rubbing them on your skin, your body is better able to absorb and use them.

In other words, supplementing with key nutrients for healthy skin means that the help your skin needs goes straight to the source!

Now, I have something exciting to announce:
